  1. As an academic advisor for the Biotechnology Program, I totally agree with this proposal. New students who register at the last hour are seldom successful and this proposal recommends alternatives.

  2. As an older student, the flexibility of ATC with it's admissions was very beneficial to me. I enrolled and got started on my classes quickly, which helped me get my prerequisites completed in time to apply for my program. I wouldn't restrict the entrance of students, but work on strengthening orientation to ATC and mentoring/advising for increasing student retention.

  3. I think that this is a great proposal because students would definitely be more prepared for the college environment if a hard deadline was implemented. Also, students would have more time to ensure that they had everything that they needed to get into the college and we would have less holds put on student records for not receiving transcripts and placement test scores as well as ensuring that the students would have enough time to provide a proof of residency card(if they are from Georgia) and also ensure that international students are able to have all their paperwork in that is necessary.

While I am aware that we receive funding based on how many students we enroll in the college which has led to not having a hard deadline, I just think that for the reasons that I mentioned above, I hope that we all understand that at the end of the day, student success should be a whole lot more important than how many we enroll each semester. By implementing a hard deadline of even just two weeks before the start of the semester so that we can enroll as many students as possible, it would just go a long way toward ensuring success and also improving our graduation rate.

Also, by implementing the hard deadline, it would give students a little more time to be able to get in contact with their advisor. By not currently having a hard deadline, we have students that accepted on the first day of the semester who get very frustrated because they cannot contact their advisor which in most cases is because their advisor is in class. Classes fill up as well, which provides these students with less opportunities which further frustrates the students.

This would also go a long way in improving our standing among potential students because current students would be happier with their experience at the college thereby creating a more positive reputation in the community and beyond.

  4. I think this is a wonderful idea. Deadlines are set for a reason. It is not fair to the students who do get their stuff in on time that others can turn theirs in after a deadline. It is also not fair to the late student to have to pay so much in fees.

  5. I agree with this. It is important to instill in students that they will face many deadlines in life and deadlines in college are important whether it's for a paper, online test, or admissions. By not adhering to the admissions deadline you are sending a message that deadlines aren't important. They should know that they are important from the very beginning of their college career.

  6. This might be a policy change that would be worthwhile but would it work for a QEP?

  7. I agree that deadlines need to be enforced. I cannot tell you how many times I hear from students "I am trying to go to Gainesville but I am too late so I decided to come here and I will transfer out after one semester." This is not what we are here for. We will probably see a decline in enrollment for a few semesters but I believe in the end, it will all wash out.
